Thanksgiving Danger for pets

As we begin the holidays we don’t realize that holidays can bring deadly consequences for our pets. There are so many holiday threats to animals can include seasonal decorations, ornamental lighting, and ingestion of inappropriate or toxic items, excessive consumption of rich foods or harmful food, candle flames, and many more. Let’s think before you sit down with family and friends for your feast, please feed your pets before you guests arrive. The reason is that you reduce the temptation for your guest to give food to your pet that might hurt him or her. If you’re pet just ate it’s going to less likely to want food or steal food from the table. I know its tough when you pet wants some delicious holiday food but no giving it to them will keep them safe. One of the easiest ways to avoid trouble is to make sure your guests know the pet rules and discourage them from feeding critters scraps from the table. I know this food below is delicious for you but again it’s not safe for your pets. The biggest hazards to pets on Thanksgiving include: -Rich, fatty foods (turkey skins, gravy, etc,) can contribute to pancreatitis. This gland inflammation is painful and can be serious-requiring emergency veterinary assistance.
-Cooked bones can splinter and cause tears or obstruction in a pet's digestive tract.
-Baking strings, if ingested, can create trouble if ingested by your pet.
-Onions in holiday stuffing can lead to canine anemia if consumed by your dog.
-Grapes and raisin toxins can cause kidney failure in pets.
-Ingesting chocolate can cause seizures or kill your pet.
-Caffeine and alcohol are also toxic for pets.
Let’s keep our pets safe and happy this Holiday Season! What can you do instead? Buy some wonderful chew toys or some treat for your pet to chew on that will keep them happy and occupied during this holiday season. Should your pet get a hold of any of the food items above – please take them to the vet.
